What You'll Need for this Recipe

Gin (or Vodka) depending on how you like to make martinis. Vodka has the most neutral taste but I personally prefer the complexity of gin. This drink works with any brand, from Empress 1908 to Hendrick's to Citadelle Gin and Tanqueray or the West End Gin I used here.
Champagne or sparkling wine like Prosecco or even a bubbly rosé. I love Black Girl Magic Brut for this recipe. If you want to us a sparkling moscato like Stella Rosa or other sweet wine, I recommend leaving out the simple syrup.
Orange Liqueur takes the place of some of the traditional amount of gin and adds a hit of citrus flavor. Grab whichever bottle you typically go for like Grand Marnier or Cointreau.
Simple Syrup adds a little touch of sweetness that balances out the sharper notes of this drink. Try my easy citrus simple syrup for a flavor twist!

Substitutions & Variations
Garnishes - I add a simple orange twist to finish this drink but you can go over the top if you want to make it more festive for the holidays. Think: sugar rims, frozen fruit, fresh herbs, and edible glitter.
Non-Alcoholic - Swap in your alcohol-free spirits to make this a zero proof drink. Or check out my sparkling New Year's Eve mocktail!
How to Make a Champagne Martini

- Step 1: Put a coupe glass or martini glass in the fridge to chill.

- Step 2: Add the gin, liqueur, and syrup to a cocktail shaker over ice.
Pro Tip #1
Chilling the cocktail glass is what creates the signature frosted look we associate with martinis. It also helps keep your drink cold so don't skip this step!
Pro Tip #2
If you don't have cocktail tools, try a shot glass in place of a jigger, and a mason jar in place of a cocktail shaker. You can strain the liquid through a slotted spoon or a mesh strainer or a colander.

- Step 3: Seal and shake the shaker until chilled then strain into chilled glass.

- Step 4: Top up the glass with chilled champagne.

- Step 5: Garnish with a twisted orange peel and enjoy responsibly!
Pro Tip #3
To make the garnish, cut off a strip of orange peel about ½ an inch wide and at least three inches long. Wrap it around a straw or pencil in a corkscrew shape then hold it in place for about 30 seconds. Now it's ready to use!
Frequently Asked Questions

How to Serve
This sparkling gin cocktail is best when chilled so it should be enjoyed as soon as possible. Serve in coupe glasses or martini glasses or champagne flutes for full presentation points.
For a New Year's Eve party, I recommend pairing it with light bites like turkey burger sliders, baked brie with praline sauce, a simple cheese board, massaged kale salad, and Nigerian meat pies!
