Instructions

  • Place coupe glass into refrigerator or freezer to chill.
  • Make the orange peel garnish (optional): Cut off a strip of orange peel about ½ inch wide and at least three inches long. Wrap the peel around a straw or pencil in a corkscrew shape and hold for about 30 seconds then slide the peel off and set aside.
  • Fill cocktail shaker halfway with ice then pour in gin, simple syrup, and orange liqueur.
  • Cover the cocktail shaker and shake vigorously until chilled to the touch (about eight seconds).
  • Strain liquid into chilled glass then top up with champagne and add orange garnish. Serve immediately and enjoy responsibly!

Notes

Preparation
Chilling the cocktail glass is what creates the signature frosted look we associate with martinis. It also helps keep your drink cold so don't skip this step!
To batch this drink for a crowd, shake up four ounces of gin, two ounce of orange liqueur, and four ounces of simple syrup over ice strain the liquid out evenly between four chilled glasses. Top up each glass with champagne and garnish with twists of orange. Serves four.
