What You'll Need for this Recipe

Espresso of your choosing for a strong coffee taste and extra kick of caffeine. Alternatively, you can use your favorite drip coffee or cold brew or even instant coffee powder, if that's what you like. It won't technically be a latte with coffee but I won't tell anyone!
Milk for the creamy smoothness that binds everything together. Use any plant-based milk or dairy milk you typically enjoy in a latte. I've had great results using almond milk, oat milk, and coconut milk.
Sweet Potato Syrup is where all the sweet and spicy flavor comes from. I highly recommend using my sweet potato simple syrup for this but have also included instructions to make this drink using sweet potato puree and a few other ingredients if you don't have time to whip up the syrup.

Substitutions & Variations
Decaf - For reduced caffeine, use decaffeinated espresso, black tea or rooibos tea instead.
Hot or Over Ice - Spiced sweet potato flavor is heavily associated with the fall and winter months, especially the Thanksgiving holiday season but I'm of the mind that it can be enjoyed year round. So I have instructions to enjoy this as a traditional hot latte or and iced latte below.
Shaken - Yes, you can do the shaken espresso thing with this drink, too! Check out my tip for this in the step-by-step instructions below.
Vegan - This latte is vegetarian as-is and, if you use a dairy-free milk option, it will be a vegan recipe, too!
How to Make a Sweet Potato Latte at Home
Hot Latte Instructions

- Step One: Brew your espresso then add to a heat-safe mug.
- Step Two: Mix sweet potato syrup and steamed milk.
- Step Three: Pour milk and foam over top of espresso.
Pro Tip #1
If you don't have a fancy milk steamer, I recommend heating the milk on the stovetop or in the microwave until steaming (not boiling) then carefully mixing in the syrup using a mini hand blender/frothing wand.
Iced Latte Instructions

- Step Four: Whip together the sweet potato syrup and milk.
- Step Five: Pour the foamy milk mixture into a highball glass over ice.
- Step Six: Pour brewed espresso into milk.
- Step Seven: Stir and serve.
Pro Tip #2
To make an iced sweet potato shaken espresso, add all the ingredients to a shaker or mason jar with ice then seal it and shake vigorously until combined. This will give you the frothy mouth feel of a shaken espresso drink in just a few minutes!
