What You'll Need for this Recipe

Sugar adds the sweetness and I prefer to use brown sugar or cane sugar for more full-bodied flavor but you can also use granulated sugar, honey or even your favorite zero sugar sweetener like stevia.
Cinnamon either in stick form or ground cinnamon powder. Both are typically found on the spice and baking aisle at the grocery store.

- Step 3: Bring the syrup to a boil then remove from heat and steep until cooled. Strain out any solids.

- Step 4: Transfer to a bottle or jar to store.
Can you leave cinnamon sticks in simple syrup?
You can store the syrup with or without the cinnamon stick. Just keep an eye on it as mold can develop on it if stored too long.
Pro Tip
If you use cinnamon powder, you might need to shake up the syrup before use as some separation can occur, causing the cinnamon to settle on the bottom.

I am so happy to find your recipe station! I am making cinnamon syrup for an adult birthday party tomorrow. Can’t find my cinnamon sticks and I need this done tonight.
I really like that you mention using other spices, which I use all of the time. I am making a smokey, winter drink that will have a smoking cinnamon sitting in the glass w bourbon and dark rum; and a bit of cream to ward off the chill.
