❤️ Why You'll Love this Recipe
Quick and Easy - If you have five minutes, you can make this beginner friendly concoction. No special technique needed but you will need a couple of bar tools and I even have suggestions for common kitchen tools you can use instead, if you need--just below.
Sweet Tea Flavor - The taste of properly made American southern sweet tea is unmistakeable and it echos throughout this drink without being overpowering. It's the perfect complement to the fresh citrus and mint in an old fashioned mojito, which are common iced tea additions anyway!

What You'll Need for this Recipe

White Rum is the traditional spirit from the original mojito recipe and is also called light rum or silver rum. I personally prefer dark rum and have made this recipe successfully with either option but I don't recommend using spiced rum.
Sweet Tea Simple Syrup takes the place of cane sugar or sugar syrup typically used in a mojito cocktail. I humbly recommend using my DIY sweet tea syrup for the best results!
Mint is crushed in the drink and can be added as a garnish. Use fresh mint as dried won't work here.
Lime juice balances out the sweet and herbal flavor notes perfectly. Juice squeezed from fresh limes in best but concentrated juice from a bottle can also work.

Substitutions & Variations
Citrus - Limes are the most traditional option but if you don't have them available, lemons or even sour oranges can work in a pinch.
How to Make a Texas Sweet Tea Mojito

Step One: Muddle together the sweet tea syrup and mint.

Step Two: Add in ice, rum, lime juice, and club soda then stir gently.
Pro Tip: If you don't have cocktail tools on hand, you can replace the muddler with the end of a kitchen spoon and the jigger with a standard shot glass. And use a teaspoon or butter knife instead of the bar spoon!

Step Three: Add any garnishes you like and serve cold.
Frequently Asked Questions
To maintain the right flavor and temperature in this drink, I don't recommend making it in advance. The club soda will go flat, which means you lose the signature effervescence of a mojito, and the ice will melt, which dilutes the flavor.
To make a big batch of sweet tea flavored mojitos, muddle two ounces sweet tea with 12 mint leaves in a pitcher then fill the vessel halfway with ice. Add eight ounces rum, three ounces lime juice, and 16 ounces of club soda and stir. Serves four.

📖 Recipe

The Best Sweet Tea Mojito
Ingredients
- 3 mint leaves
- ½ ounce sweet tea syrup
- ice
- 2 ounces rum
- ¾ ounce lime juice from about one fresh lime
- club soda
Instructions
- Add mint leaves and tea syrup to highball glass and press with muddler to release the mint oils and combine the flavors.
- Fill glass ¾ full with ice then pour in rum, lime juice, and top up with club soda.
- Stir to combine then add any desired garnishes. Serve immediately and enjoy responsibly!
Notes
-
Dissolve 1 ½ cup sugar in one cup of water in a saucepan over medium high heat.
-
Add six tea bags and bring the mixture to a boil.
-
Remove pot from heat and steep the tea until syrup is cooled (about 30 minutes) then remove tea bags from syrup. Don't squeeze the bags to get extra liquid out as this releases tannins that can turn the syrup bitter!
