❤️ Why You'll Love this Recipe
Simple Ingredients - You only need three ingredients and no fancy equipment or technique. Just grab a saucepan and a kitchen spoon and that's about it--quick and easy!
True Matcha Flavor - I highly recommend using the best quality matcha you can get for this recipe because it carries most of the flavor weight.
Flavorful syrups are so easy to make and go a long way in my baking and drink making escapades. Here are a few more popular ones to add to your routine: citrus simple syrup, ginger honey syrup, turmeric ginger lemon syrup, spiced peach syrup, and brown sugar pineapple syrup!
How to use matcha syrup?
Matcha simple syrup uses are practically endless and this one is much better than what you'd get at Starbucks or elsewhere. Add it to your lattes, cocktails, and mocktails.
Make a green tea simple syrup cocktail with it like my matcha mojito!
It tastes fantastic in homemade Italian sodas (or should I say Japanese sodas?) and spritz drinks like my easy matcha soda recipe. Try it with ginger beer, too.
And you can use this syrup to add flavor to cake layers and keep them moist. Last but not lease, use this matcha syrup for ice cream. A spoonful drizzled on top of my black sesame ice cream is the combo you didn't know you needed til now.
What You'll Need for this Recipe

Ceremonial Grade Matcha Powder will provide the best flavor and color in this syrup, which is especially important for the look and taste of your drinks and desserts. I use and recommend this quality organic matcha powder. Alternatively, you can use matcha tea bags, if needed.
Sugar and Water are the basis for the classic simple syrup recipe and I use a 1.5:1 of sugar to water in this recipe with results in a richer syrup.

Substitutions & Variations
Sweetener Options - I developed this matcha syrup recipe using granulated sugar (white sugar) but you can instead use brown sugar or cane sugar, honey, agave, and much more in the same proportions. You can even use a zero sugar sweetener!

Frequently Asked Questions
You can make matcha syrup up to one week in advance. Just store in the fridge.
Store in an airtight container and refrigerate. This syrup should keep for about two weeks and sometimes lasts even longer (up to two months) with careful handling, due to the higher sugar content.
To freeze, transfer to an airtight, freezer safe container or ice molds and store for up to six months. Freezing in molds makes for easier thawing and use. Note that the higher sugar content may prevent this syrup from freezing completely solid so it's best to use a container or mold with a lid.
