Easy matcha green tea flavored syrup for drinks and desserts
Print Recipe
- 1 ½ cup granulated sugar or sweetener of your choice
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon matcha powder
Add the sugar, water, and matcha to saucepan over medium flame and stir until dissolved.
Bring the mixture to a boil then reduce heat to low and simmer for about 10 minutes.
Remove from heat and cool fully then transfer to an airtight container for use and/or storage.
Preparation
You can make matcha syrup up to one week in advance. Just store in the fridge.
Storage
Store in an airtight container and refrigerate. This syrup should keep for about two weeks and sometimes lasts even longer (up to two months) with careful handling, due to the higher sugar content.
To freeze, transfer to an airtight, freezer safe container or ice molds and store for up to six months. Freezing in molds makes for easier thawing and use. Note that the higher sugar content may prevent this syrup from freezing completely solid so it's best to use a container or mold with a lid.
