Quick and Easy - You only need five minutes and a few simple ingredients to make a peach-flavored old fashioned. No fancy technique required so it's beginner friendly for sure.
Perfect Peach Flavor - Two peachy ingredients plus garnish guarantee you will taste summer stone fruit in every sip plus subtle notes of sweet spices!
Peach drinks are officially in this summer. After you try this one, sidle up to my peach mint julep or peach gin martini and don't skip the peach cobbler cocktail. Last but not least, my southern peach sweet tea!
What You'll Need for this Recipe

Bourbon Whiskey or rye whiskey are traditional for making old fashioneds. I usually choose bourbon and recommend grabbing a brand and type you'd enjoy sipping neat.
Peach Syrup adds the fresh peach flavor as well as notes of vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and brown sugar if you use my homemade peach syrup. Otherwise, purchase your favorite peach simple syrup from the store.
Peach Bitters take the place of Angostura bitters in this recipe and serve as the seasoning of the drink. We're only using a little bit but you'll definitely notice if they're missing!

Substitutions & Variations
Ice - Using a big chunk of ice in an old fashioned is both aesthetic and functional in that it prevents the drink from getting watered down so you can sip and savor it slowly as it's meant to be. Use any ice shape you like--sphere ice molds and large ice cube molds are widely available and create these kinds of cubes easily.
Garnishes - I add a fresh peach slice to this drink, which is not traditional but I figure why not have fun, right? This is optional and some folks like to add candied or spiked cocktail cherries to their old fashioned drinks, too.
How to Make a Peach Old Fashioned

Step One: Stir the peach bitters and brown sugar peach syrup together.

Step Two: Add ice and whiskey then stir again until chilled.
Pro Tip #1: For the first two steps, I use a cocktail mixing glass and bar spoon but you can also use a highball glass and a regular table spoon or butter knife (with a gentle hand).
Pro Tip #2: Instead of measuring the liquor and peach syrup with a jigger, you can use a standard-sized shot glass, which holds the same volume of liquid as the larger end of the jigger.

Step Three: Strain the liquid into a rocks glass over a large chunk of ice.

Step Four: Squeeze an orange peel over top to express orange oil into the drink.
Pro Tip #3: I strain this drink with a hawthorne strainer but you can also use a julep or mesh strainer. If you don't have any strainers, use another glass to cover all but a sliver of the mixing glass as you pour so that just the liquid comes out!

Step Five: Drop the orange peel into the glass and garnish with fresh peach, if desired.
Frequently Asked Questions
To large batch this bourbon cocktail, combine two ounces of the peach simple syrup with 8-12 dashes of peach bitters. Add the ice and six ounces of bourbon then stir until chilled. Divide the cocktails between four rocks glasses and express orange oil over each one. This makes four servings and you can adjust the servings in the recipe card below if you need any more!

How to Serve
Serve this drink immediately so it will be ice cold and undiluted. A garnish is not required but highly recommended for extra razzle dazzle. Adding a garnish also makes it obvious that this ain't a plain ol' old fashioned.
My favorite is a peach garnish--anything from a fresh peach slice to a canned peach segment to dried peach pieces will work.
