What You'll Need for this Recipe

Plums are the star of the show here. I've used black plums, red plums, yellow plums, and even hybrids like pluots and apriums in this dish with great success. I only recommend fresh or frozen plums for this bake because I've found that canned or tinned plums will become too soft in the time it takes the topping to crisp up in the oven.
Brown Sugar and Granulated Sugar for depth of flavor and sweetness. You can use either light or dark brown sugar interchangeably in this recipe.

Substitutions & Variations
Topping - If you want more of a plum crisp-style topping, mix in a few spoonfuls of chopped almond or pistachio and about ¼ cup of old-fashioned oatmeal oats.
Other Fruits - You can use half plums and half of another kind of fruit to add different flavors to the filling. I've found that cherry, peach, apricot, apple, and blueberry are complementary to plum.
Single-Serve Minis - Bake the ingredients in oven-safe ramekins for individual crumbles for one.
Vegan - Use plant-based butter and egg substitutes to make this recipe vegan-friendly and dairy-free!
