Summer doesn't officially start til the end of June but Houston weather is ahead of the game, as usual. While I was in Pennsylvania this past weekend, everyone was talking about warm weather and I was like "Where?" I felt totally comfortable walking around in a button-down and jeans, which would not have been possible down here. It's time to wear less and go out more so let's get that skin popping, ladies! Wondering what to drink for glowing skin? Enter this glowing skin sweet green smoothie, which is basically part celery juice, part green smoothie, and all magic. Keep reading for my glowing skin secrets in drinkable form.
Green Smoothie for Glowing Skin Ingredients
Here's the glowing skin superfoods lineup you'll need to make this smoothie.
- Blueberries
- Celery
- Ginger
- Kale
- Pineapple
- Pineapple Juice
- Spinach
- Turmeric
You only need seven simple ingredients to make this glowing skin sweet green smoothie. Let's get into each one and why you want to get them in your belly ASAP. First, you'll need a couple of stalks of celery. You've probably heard a lot of hype around celery juice and for good reason. It's part glowing skin juice recipe all on its own.
Everything from improved gut health to balanced blood sugar have been attributed to regular intake of celery juice--in addition to the skin benefits we're focusing on today. Celery's anti-inflammatory properties can help with acne and eczema, among other things. And since we're doing a smoothie instead of juicing, you'll get allll the fiber.
Dark, leafy greens are also great for the skin so we're adding handfuls of two of them--spinach and kale--into this smoothie. Spinach is high in vitamin A, which helps moderate oil production in skin and hair, as well as vitamin C, which is critical for collagen production. Kale is vitamin and antioxidant rich--and especially high in vitamin K, which can help tighten skin and reduce dark circles. Of course, the goal is to be well-rested but when you can't, this will help you at least look the part!
Next up, are pineapple and pineapple juice, which also provide fight inflammation, and provide lots of vitamins, as well as enzymes that aid in digestion. My primary motivation for adding them, though, is the natural sweetness. Without the pineapple + pineapple juice, this is just a green smoothie. And it would definitely taste like one! You'll also need blueberries aka the HBIC when it comes to antioxidants. They're high in vitamin C and a bunch of other good stuff, too, so throw in about half a cup.
Lastly, ginger and turmeric. I've talked about the glow-inducing benefits of turmeric before and had to add a dash to this smoothie for those reasons. TLDR: it's an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging powerhouse! Ginger is also up there with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which help prevent signs of aging. Ginger is an easy add-in to any smoothie (this cherry pineapple one is SO delicious) and adds a kick of flavor that I love.
How to Make a Green Smoothie
Wondering how to layer smoothie ingredients? Most of the time, I just throw all the ingredients into my blender and hit liquefy, however, when you have lots of roughage (leafy greens and celery here) in the mix, it can be more difficult to get everything smooth. In this case, layering is key. Pour in the liquid first. Then add the pineapple and celery, ginger, greens, berries, and turmeric. The press the liquefy button for your life! Pour, then sip your glowing skin sweet green smoothie and feel yourself elevate. 🙂 Smoothies are my favorite easy way to get in a variety of nutrients all at once.
And I think you'll also love this blacker the berry smoothie and these tropical breakfast smoothies so check them out. Consistently clear skin has been a periodic struggle for me but I've noticed that when I take in more of the good stuff (and follow my dermatologist's recommendations), my skin thanks me for it. I'm giving this recipe 5 stars even though I haven't tried it but because I do make something like this and it is very delicious. I just have one question. In this recipe you say to use 1 tsp of turmeric. I don't use the powder instead I use the root. My question is, how much of the root should I use? Thank you and I'm looking forward to making and enjoying this recipe and others.

About 1/2 an inch of fresh will work in place of 1 teaspoon of powdered!
