Why you should visit Breakfast Brunch Café in Cypress, Texas, and what to order from their expansive menu when you go.
If you're familiar with the Houston area then you know that Cypress, TX is a suburban community northwest of here. Typically, the most time I spend in Cypress is passing through on my way to College Station or Waco but I made the short (about 35 minutes) trip up in order to try out the menu at Breakfast Brunch Café, which is a black-owned business located in a shopping and dining center called the Board Walk at Towne Lake. This is a great place to grab a casual meal almost any day of the week as they're open from 7 am to 3 pm (peak breakfast and brunch hours) Tuesday through Sunday. The atmosphere inside is homey and relaxed and the food is what you'd expect from your mother's kitchen...if she is an excellent chef, that is. 🙂 I went on a Saturday afternoon with some of my foodie friends and, although it was busy and every table was full, we experienced great service. Of course, you clicked on this post to see the food so check it all out below!
As the name implies, Breakfast Brunch Café is focused on sweet and savory dishes you'd eat during the first half of the day, specifically farm-to-table American fare. Their expansive menu includes classics like shrimp & grits and chicken & waffles, as well as mouthwatering salads--yes, I used mouthwatering to describe salads--and full-on lunch fare like fish tacos. You can also order individual breakfast items a la carte. Additionally, there are countless delicious mimosa flavor options coming out of the full-service bar! I recommend combining strawberry and mango. It's magical. Now, let's get into the food! Start scrolling for everything my friends and I ordered and what you absolutely must try when you visit.
The French Beignets are everything they should be with a hint of coffee flavor and topped off with salted caramel sauce. Other starters that are on my list for next time include an order of the Crawfish Fritters and the Homemade Pop-Tart.
You have to try the Crab Cake Benedict: two jumbo lump crab cakes, greek yogurt remoulade, and a snow pea salad tossed in tamarind vinaigrette. I don't usually order crab cakes because they are rarely done properly, in my opinion, but these were just perfect--not too soft and full of great flavor. Each component of the dish worked wonderfully together.
Who orders a salad at brunch? Me. And I'm so glad I did because it was beyond delicious. This is the Texas Kale Salad comprised of kale, mixed greens, golden raisins, dried figs, dried apricots, dried cranberries, oranges, crispy bacon, goat cheese, and pumpkin seeds all tossed in a blood orange vinaigrette!
Bananas Foster French Toast with Bacon
You can't go wrong with this brunch staple: classic Chicken & Waffles.
Steak and Eggs done beautifully
This is another of Breakfast Brunch Cafe's Benedicts--the roasted pork, served on a cheese grit cake. There are also duck and ham versions.
The aforementioned strawberry mango mimosas
