Hey, y'all. I'm somewhere over the Pacific right now heading back from vacation but wanted to check in on this lovely Wednesday to ease us into Black History Month with a beautiful, five-ingredient smoothie that will trigger Tupac's Keep Ya Head Up just by looking at it. Don't stop at looking, though. As cute as she is, this blacker the berry smoothie tastes even better. Let's get into why this beauty should definitely be part of your meal plan.
When I chatted with Marisa Moore RDN about vitamins & supplements earlier this month (full story here), she dropped knowledge about underrated superfoods like the berries and greens we can find at most any grocery store. This smoothie incorporates two we take for granted: blueberries and blackberries. Blueberries are particularly nutrient dense and high in fiber, Vitamins C, K, and manganese. They can even help reduce muscle damage after exercise. Blackberries have many of the same benefits and they support oral and brain health, too. I am all about high impact with minimal effort but it's almost crazy how much goodness is packed into this glass so easy. And it only takes two minutes to make?! If I could add emojis from my laptop, you'd see blacker the berry smoothie flanked by two little flames. Maybe even the two little twerking twins. 🙂
While the fresh blackberries and blueberries contribute to the deep hue of this smoothie, they get a crucial assist from a pack of frozen acai puree. Acai is one of those trendy superfoods you've probably all heard of. It's all the rage in smoothie bowls and juices. With good reason, too. Acai contains healthy fats and low amounts of sugar. It's full of antioxidants and can help improve cholesterol levels. I especially love it in this smoothie for it's deep purple, borderline chocolatey color and these frozen puree packs make it a snap to incorporate. To recap, she's beautiful, delicious, and easy--talking about the smoothie. If you're like me and need no selling on the perfect versatility of smoothies, check out this cherry ginger smoothie. She's a cutie, too.
Now, say it with me: The blacker the berry, the sweeter the smoothie! My Oahu vacation has been a dream and I can't wait to share all the beauty of this trip with y'all--will get to work on the post soon and, in the meantime, here's my packing list. I hope the rest of your week is wonderful and challenge you to think about how to incorporate more nutrients into your diet. Hint: This smoothie is an excellent way. 🙂 Check out this almond breakfast smoothie and my 3-step smoothie bowl process for even more. Thanks for reading!
