My bathroom reveal: clean bright-white design with a boutique feel. Includes all product and service sources as well as recommendations.
Growing up in a suburban area, I became used to half baths, master baths with two-sink vanities, etc. When I started searching for a home in the city (Third Ward, to be exact) I knew that wouldn't be the norm unless I purchased a new build. I looked at a couple of brand new houses but never felt moved to make an offer. I had fallen in love with the charm that reminded me of my grandparents' house and could only be found in an older home. But with that comes bathrooms that are fewer in number and smaller in size. Fast forward to me finding the one...with just the one bathroom, haha! Since it's just me for now in a one-story house, I wasn't too worried about having multiple bathrooms but I wanted to make sure this one was to my taste and highly functional for myself and guests. Also, since I like to entertain (and had a sleepover with my linesisters the very first night in the house!) the bathroom needed to be ready to go from the jump. My uncle is an amazing contractor (in the tradition set by my Paw-Paw) and thanks to his expertise and a little imagination, I now have a bathroom that is bright and crisp without seeming too sterile...even though, sterile isn't the worst word to have associated with your bathroom. 🙂 Check out the photos below as well as the resources and tips that helped bring it to life.
I wanted bright white and chrome to dominate and help open up this small space. Starting from the ground up, we picked out beautiful white marble tiles with blue/gray veins and a bit of sparkle from our local Floor & Decor. While the tiles appeared way more white in-store than after installation, I still like the look. One perk of a small bathroom: I was able to afford nice, high-quality materials for the floor since we weren't covering a large space. My uncle can vouch for the fact that I was so picky committed to getting the look I wanted that I hand-picked each individual tile!
I bought polished chrome fixtures online from Groupon and Amazon to complement the overall look. The faucet is a nod to the original era of the house and the shower head/handheld adds much-needed modern functionality.
Even if we hadn't renovated, I still would have bought a shiny new toilet because...toilets are kind of personal. And, of course, I went with all white linens, from the towels to the shower curtain to the window shade. The window shade was the last piece of the puzzle and I'm glad I held out for it because it has a very clean look and lets in a lot of natural light while maintaining privacy (price wasn't bad, either)! In shopping for anything related to the bathroom, I had to hold it up against nearby items and ask myself "Is it white white, though?" Ivory simply would not do.
As you can see, counter space is at a premium but thank God for an ample linen closet and cabinetry! To help keep the counter clutter-free but still have essentials in reach, I opted for a mirrored medicine cabinet to house my daily toiletries and fragrances. I also just think it's a fun old-school thing to have. 🙂
I have a lot of products (#naturalhairproblems) and use clear bins to keep everything in my cabinet organized and easy to get to. This cabinet is pretty spacious and I kept the original hardware on its door and on the built-in laundry hamper below.
The last touch was to paint the existing vanity cabinet bright white. For this, I used a custom-mixed oil-based paint by Behr called Bakery White that you'll also see (soon) in the kitchen.

I hope you enjoy and find inspiration from this tiny little tour. All the products and vendors used are linked above, if possible. I am still hard at work on the rest of the house and will post reveals of other rooms as they come together. I'm always sharing peeks on my Instagram, so be sure to follow along there, too. Thanks so much for reading!
