Notes
PreparationThis drink can be built in a cocktail shaker instead of a mixing glass with nearly identical results.Because this recipe calls for sparkling water, I don't recommend making it in advance or else the bubbles will go flat.To prepare this cocktail for a crowd, muddle 1 ⅓ cup watermelon chunks, two lemons (cut into quarters), 12 mint leaves, and three ounces maple syrup in a pitcher then remove the lemon pieces. Fill halfway with ice then stir in eight ounces of whiskey. Serves four.Cocktail Tool Substitute IdeasInstead of a bar spoon, you can use a regular table spoon, teaspoon, or butter knife plus a gentle hand to stir. And instead of a jiggerto measure the bourbon and maple syrup with, you can use a standard size shot glass, which holds about the same amount of liquid as the jigger's large end.Lastly, in place of a muddler, you could use the tail end of a kitchen spoon.
