Add sugar and water saucepan over medium high heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
Add in tea bags and bring mixture to a boil.
Remove from heat then steep the tea until syrup is cooled (about 30 minutes).
Remove tea bags from syrup. Do not squeeze the bags to get extra liquid out as this releases tannins that can turn the syrup bitter.
Notes
PreparationIf you are using tea bags, cut or pull off the strings for less mess. Or you can lay the tags over one side of the pot to keep them out of the liquid, instead.Be sure not to squeeze the tea bags as you steep or remove them. This releases extra tannins into the tea syrup, which will likely make it taste bitter.StorageStore your tea syrup in an airtight container and refrigerate it. It will keep for up to two weeks this way.You can freeze this syrup and keep it in the freezer for up to one year. However, due to the high sugar content, it will probably not freeze all the way solid and instead become super thick.
