easy apple tarts

Easy Apple Tarts

I don’t really get in to the swing of Fall desserts and foods until October because…Texas. Even though it’s still hot outside, there are acorns and leaves on the ground and just the slightest hint of a breeze in the air. I’m in an autumnal mood and officially kicking off a month of apple-y posts with these easy little tarts. Last October I shared my pumpkin spice hot chocolate, pumpkin maple baked oatmeal, and these crazy good pumpkin cupcakes. This year it’s all about apples. It’s also National Apple Month, so take that as federally-sanctioned encouragement to check out each apple post. 🙂 There will be a new apple dish each week. You only need five ingredients and about twenty minutes to throw these tarts together–perfect for when you don’t know what to make for company, an office potluck, or classroom treats for kids! These tarts are also pretty enough to grace any fancy table you might come across. The best part is that you probably have most of the ingredients on hand. The only one you might not is puff pastry but that’s easy to get from the frozen section of any grocery store. This is a shortcut I used because, although I love cooking fully from scratch, I am not an expert pastry chef! Even though this dessert is super easy, there is a printable version of the recipe below so print it or screenshot it for your next grocery run.

Please let me know what you think of this dessert and ask any questions you might have below. Thanks for reading!

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Open puff pastry and leave out to thaw. Meanwhile, cut each apple in half then remove core with a melon baller or metal spoon.
  2. Thinly slice each apple half, keeping slices together.
  3. Sprinkle with brown sugar, separating slices slightly in order to allow sugar to get between them.
  4. Spread egg over puff pastry and sprinkle with sea salt. Cut into four squares (or circles, if you want to get a little fancy).
  5. Place one apple half in center of each piece of pastry. Bake for about 18 minutes or until pastry is golden and apple is tender. Serve warm.
