I had my first Fogo de Chao experience a few weeks ago and it. was. amazing. I have been to a few Brazilian steakhouses aka Churrascarias in my time but not this particular chain. I expected a heavy commercial element but was pleasantly surprised. Fogo de Chao recently opened a location in The Woodlands, TX and invited local food bloggers to dine for nearly free. The Woodlands is a bit of a hike from my side of town but, in the words of a very good friend of mine: free is free and food is food. 🙂
My three best cousins and I trekked out to The Woodlands the night before Thanksgiving [who does that?] and had a wonderful time. Being stuffed with good food two days in a row is a great feeling until you want to wear something other than a tunic. Of course, Fogo de Chao is a meat-lover’s dream but the expansive salad bar, which is known as the Market Table was equally enjoyable. I am still dreaming about the cheese bread. You won’t find any photos of it on this page because…well, we ate them quite quickly. Our server, Marvin, also brought out hot accompaniments including yuca fries and caramelized bananas. Marvin, if you’re reading this, you’re the best.
The service level was on par with any upscale eatery and the kindness and attentiveness of Marvin and his colleagues exceeded our expectations. In my opinion, this is what set Fogo de Chao apart from any other such restaurant I have visited. Pictures from our visit abound below.

Some of my favorite cheeses on the Market Table
Yummy fresh citrus and mint
My selections from the [first] Market Table trip: a chopped salad with quinoa, cucumber, and tomato, the BEST chicken salad ever, veggies, citrus, papaya, and pineapple
Infamous meat carved at your table
The Superfruit Lemonade cocktail: I definitely recommend this.
A lone yuca fry…We snapped these up quickly.
