A recap of Cirque du Soleil Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities’ run in Houston, Texas.
Last Thursday, I ventured out to my second-ever Cirque du Soleil show, Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities, with one of my sorority sisters in tow. I must admit: I’ve never been to a real circus but the experience at Kurios fulfilled anything I might have imagined. The location is Sam Houston Race Park, which is a little ways out from my normal stomping grounds but truly the perfect venue for this show. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the sounds of live musicians and the sight of artists on stilts posing for selfies. I was too shy to ask for one but my foodie friend Hank took one (below) that is pretty much amazing.
There were even performers playing cello and other instruments on TOP of the big top! In addition to the pre-show entertainment there were scrumptious refreshments. Red, white, and rosé wines from Kim Crawford paired perfectly with passed appetizers including mini empanadas and infused pineapple shrimp.
The fun continued under the tent with circus-themed treats like popcorn, a full-service bar, gift shop, more entertainment, and a breathtaking cake made especially for the show by The Sweet Boutique (aka my favorite place for macarons in Sugar Land).
As for the show itself, I won’t give out any spoilers but I will say that I recommend Kurios for all ages. I tend to lean toward cynicism at times but was thoroughly entertained by the show. There are all the trappings of a cirque show: acrobatics, contortionism, crazy costumes, and a little humor. Kurios runs through May 21st and you can buy tickets here.
I hope y’all have a wonderful Tuesday. Thanks for reading!
