It's the last full week of January and, hopefully, y'all are maintaining your #NewYearNewMe resolve. While diet and eating changes may not be on your 2018 to-do list (they're not on mine), they are a common theme at this time of year so I thought this would be a good time to share 5 healthy snacks I like to keep on hand. I am not currently following any particular diet or style of eating but all of these snacks happen to be Whole30 compliant, paleo, gluten-free, and vegan! You can also eat these things while doing the Daniel Fast. I try to eat and snack mindfully most of the time so that when I indulge in things like nachos or cocktails I don't feel guilty or like I'm overdoing it.
5 Healthy Snacks to Keep on Hand
Nuts
Nuts have so many health benefits and the crunchiness helps you to feel satisfied when snacking. My go-to choices are:
- Almonds
- Walnuts
- Pecans
- Pistachios
- Cashews
- Hazelnuts
Fresh or Dried Fruit
Apples, easy peel oranges, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and grapes are convenient to throw in your bag when on the go. I store the berries and grapes in a ziploc bag or pyrex container. Dried fruit like raisins, dried cranberries, cherries, and banana or plantain chips are great for changing things up and go really well with the nuts listed above.
Applesauce
I like to dip pretzels or banana chips in applesauce for a satisfying combination of flavors and textures. Mott's Unsweetened applesauce is my go to in the original, strawberry, and blueberry flavors.
Snack Bars
I love Larabars! I try to keep a few in my pantry and one in my purse at all times. I haven't tried every single flavor yet but am working on it. 🙂 Currently, my favorites are:
That's It Bars are only made from fruit and something I grab when I don't have fresh fruit with me and want to pass over the candy section but still eat something sweet.
Fig Bars are also delicious but they have far more ingredients that the two bars above so they're more of an honorable mention.
Water
Water is what I tend to drink the most day in and day out. I have a number of reusable water bottles and tumblers so that I can have it on the go when running errands, working out, etc. and try to always keep one in the cup holder in my car. This isn't technically a snack but I thought it made sense to include here because often when we feel hungry, we're actually thirsty!
I would love to hear about your favorite healthy snacks and snacking habits in the comments below. Don't be stingy! Since the Super Bowl and Valentine's Day are coming up, I'll be sharing recipes and posts that are a bit more indulgent in the coming weeks. As always, thanks for reading!

Great tips! I always keep nuts, seeds & dried fruit on hand & it helps to curb cravings & to keep me away from junk. Although I do occasionally cave & have a bit of the bad stuff.

I cave sometimes, too but these kind of snacks cut down on the guilt when I do. Thanks for reading!

I am always dehydrating fresh fruit and making granola bars for some healthy snacks. My family loves nuts and homemade yogurt.

Perfect timing! I'm on the first week of the Virgin Diet and about the only allowed snack is nuts. Good list to have.

I haven't heard of the Virgin Diet before. What does is consist of?
