Kitchen Makeover Mood Board

This Wednesday marked one year since I closed on my home. It has been an exciting year with no shortage of decorating and DIY projects. The very first thing was my all-white bathroom reveal, shortly followed by my colorful and feminine home office makeover. I also finished decorating my entertaining-friendly living room over the summer and stepped into the fall One Room Challenge to get my dining room together. You can see my process for making a mood board for any room here and another example from the dining room here. But we’re here to discuss the kitchen makeover mood board you see above, so let’s get into that. 🙂

Here’s what my kitchen looked like at closing about a year ago. Gross, right?

Within the first month, I painted the cabinets and resurfaced the countertop with this granite-effect paint kit until I could decide on (and save for) my dream countertop. It was a temporary fix but definitely a step up. My kitchen today still looks about the same and I’m ready to put in some work (and coins) to change that.

You would think that the kitchen would be my first order of a business since I love cooking but I’m glad I didn’t dive in with major changes because I what I would have gone for just a year ago isn’t what I want now. A year’s worth of research and working in this kitchen have taught me a few things! This kitchen makeover mood board helps me to organize my thoughts and vision for the room and is something I can refer to when shopping. Since this probably isn’t my forever home, I want to make smart decisions that will benefit me when attracting buyers or renters down the line. I am flexible on certain finishes but here are the changes I have in mind:

• Replace cabinet and drawer pulls (I like these.)
• Install subway tile backsplash (This peel-and-stick version is on sale.)
• Change light fixtures
• Replace faucet and possibly sink (Current favorite faucet and favorite sink)
• Replace countertops with butcher block (Eyeing this finish)
• Add window treatments (Thinking bamboo shades)
• Paint or replace flooring
• Add a rug
• Paint walls
• Add storage for cleaning tools

Executing on this kitchen makeover mood board won’t be an overnight process and I hope to be done by the end of this year but am not making any promises. As y’all might recall, I created this guest room mood board last summer and that hasn’t really gone anywhere aside from this DIY designer lamp dupe. 🙂 Thanks so much for reading!
