Everything Peli: the best menu items to order when visiting Peli Peli, Peli Peli Kitchen, and Peli Deli restaurants in Houston, Texas.
My first brush with South African food was in Washington D.C. and it was love at first bite. So it's no surprise that I love everything Peli Peli down here in Houston. I wrote about my first dining experience at the Galleria location last year in this post. I recently tried out a few limited-time menu items and have dined many more times at this and two of their newer concept locations so am a bit overdue for an update. Scroll through for my favorite new menu items, details on two new Houston restaurants and a giveaway!
Peli Peli x Kurios
Duck Liver Pate Sliders
South African Nougat Ice Cream
Sticky Toffee Pudding (my forever favorite)
Bobotie
Chicken Espetada
(Some are limited-time menu items available for the duration of Cirque du Soleil's Houston run of Kurios through May 21, 2017.)
Peli Peli Kitchen
PPK is a the fast-casual and family-friendly addition to the Peli family. The same sticky toffee pudding...in a cupcake. The same yummy Protea wine...in indestructible stemless glasses. The same cool artwork...actually, this artwork is even cooler, in my opinion. It covers the walls and floors in hanging pieces, murals, and messages nodding to both South African culture and H-Town love. The artist, Jon Garner, has done pieces for Erykah Badu and Coachella. No big deal, right?
Salmon Rosti
Sticky Toffee Cupcake and Red Velvet Churro
Peli Deli
Downtown Houston doesn't exactly have the most happening reputation but lots of social and dining spots are popping up to help revamp that. Peli Deli is one of them and it features quick, tasty breakfast and lunchtime items for those who work downtown and want to change up their workday dining routine. It's located in the Esperson Building on Travis Street near Rusk with tunnel access. My favorite items are below.
Naan Tacos
Sticky Toffee Cookie
Marinated Beet Salad
Curry Chicken and Curry Veggie Naan Tacos
