Harold’s in the Heights

Now that my time in braces is up *insert dance and praise break* I don’t trek to the Heights area very often but I recently ventured out for to taste some of the offerings at Harold’s Restaurant, Bar & Terrace and it was well worth the trip. Harold’s serves up Southern classics created by Chef Antoine Ware. Chef Ware puts his own twist on everything from a Louisiana staple like shrimp étouffée to a dish from his childhood like grits and grillades. The bar staff at Harold’s makes creative (and delicious) drinks. This giant bowl was filled with a custom cocktail called “Blog Grog Punch” for our tasting event, which was composed of whiskey, peach preserves, bitters, and lemon. I can only describe it as dream and I think you should ask for it when you visit. Thank me later.:)

Shrimp Étouffée Harold’s style = formed into balls and fried. It really does not get more Southern than fried shrimp étouffée!

The Country Ham Plate is available at Harold’s during brunch and comes with house-made butter, syrup, and pimento cheese. I’m not a fan of ham but…those.biscuits.y’all!

KG’s Double Brined Fried Chicken is an absolute must-try. The coating was perfectly crisp and flavorful and the meat tender and moist.

We concluded our meal with peanut butter and jelly bread pudding. Let me say that again. Peanut Butter and Jelly Bread Pudding. I’m getting a little dizzy just looking at the picture. Y’all know I have a soft spot for bread pudding (when done right) and this is just another example of the creative minds at work in the Harold’s kitchen.
